Alternate Care Program
What is the Alternate Care Program?
Alternate Care provides specialized respite to children with developmental delays. Children are matched with a family that has been screened and trained to provide relief either in the family’s home or in the home of the relief provider. It is a safe and nurturing place for the child to spend time while providing a much needed break for the caregivers. This program was developed in partnership with the Children’s Aid Society of Brant and Lansdowne Children’s Centre.
Who is eligible for the Alternate Care Program?
Children 0-16 years of age with a developmental delay. New referrals are made through Contact Brant (519-758-8228). If your family is already working with Lansdowne, please consult your child’s worker for more detailed information.
What can I expect?
The Alternate Care Coordinator will meet with you to obtain more information about your child’s individual needs and requirements. When a respite family has been matched for you, you will meet with the Family and Alternate Care Coordinator. The specific days of respite are arranged between you and the respite family for a maximum of 10 days per month. Your child will have an enjoyable time with another family while you are taking care of yourself.
