Recreation Services provide opportunities designed to assist and encourage children and youth clients to take advantage of individual or group activities directed towards promoting physical, cultural, and/or social development. These activities allow clients to explore their interests, exercise their skill sets and pursue personal development.

Every Kid Counts (EKC)
What is Every Kid Counts?
The Every Kid Counts program provides children and youth with special needs an equal opportunity to participate in local, community-operated recreational programs of their choice.
Each child/youth is matched with a Support Worker who provides both hands-on and programming support to the child, family and recreation staff.

Therapeutic Recreation (TR)
What is Therapeutic Recreation?
Therapeutic Recreation services are for children and youth age 10 - 18, thoughtfully designed to develop and facilitate individual goals, adding to a participant’s capacity for enjoyment, through engagement in leisure activity.
TR services focus on opportunities to:

Strengthen skills necessary for participation

Discover and build upon personal interests

Increase social skills/opportunity
-
Maximize independence
-
Foster community involvement


Camp and Recreation (CARE)
Camp and Recreation programs are for children and youth age 4 - 18 involved with Respite Services at Lansdowne Children's Centre.
CARE programs provide opportunities for eligible clients to:

Be social with others

Try new activities
-
Get active
-
Learn new skills and interests
-
Develop independence and personal growth
What is Every Kid Counts?

Who is Eligible?
Children and youth between the ages of 6 and 18, who reside in Brant County and have a developmental delay and/or a physical disability.
What can I expect?

After the referral is received, you will be contacted by the Recreation Manager and provided assistance in finding a community program to fit the needs and interests of your child/youth.

A skilled support worker will be matched with your child/youth. The support worker will attend the community recreation program you have chosen with your child/youth.

It is the caregiver’s (your) responsibility to transport their (your) child/youth to and from the activity as well as pay for the cost of the activity.
Every Kid Counts is a Free Service program for clients of Lansdowne Children's Centre.
The community-operated program you choose to attend is a fee-for-service, paid to that program operator.

Who is eligible for Therapeutic Recreation program?
Therapeutic Recreation programs are designed for participants who:

Are 10 – 18 years of age

Are receiving services at Lansdowne Children’s Centre.

Have a level of independence which allows safe supervision as well as maintaining self-directed participation at a 3 youth to 1 adult ratio

Identify a personal interest in individual and/or TR program goals
What can I expect?
Following referral, the Recreation Therapist (RT) will complete a TR initial assessment with Guardian(s) to support choice of a program option that will offer the most benefit to the participant. Formal/informal assessments will be completed as appropriate to support program development as well as set and monitor goals. Programs are typically group sessions. 1:1 appointments are available after consultation.
Group Programming

Programs are in house or in the community dependent on the leisure pursuit

During the school year programs are in evenings and occasional weekends

During the summer there are 4 weeks of camp that are offered
Individual Appointment

1:1 appointments with the RT to determine next steps in an individual pursuit

Transition to community programming
Therapeutic Recreation is a Fee-for-Service program for eligible clients of Lansdowne Children's Centre.
A client charge is levied per program registration.

What is Camp and Recreation (CARE)?
CARE provides multiple evening, Saturday, and P.A. Day programs each month from September through June, as well as one week of March Break camp. In July and August, CARE offers multiple weeks of Summer Camp. CARE programs promote diverse and viable goals, including independence and personal growth, development and discovery of new skills and interests, social opportunities with other program participants, and relationship building with Support Workers.
Who is eligible for Camp and Recreation (CARE)?
Clients eligible for CARE are those who have active status with Respite Services through Lansdowne Children’s Centre and are between the ages of 4 and 18 years old.
What can I expect?
CARE provides a supportive, safe and inclusive environment where children and youth can participate in hands on, meaningful experiences. CARE provides engaging opportunities for children/youth to explore and experiment with the world around them and participate in their community.
In all CARE programs, clients are paired with Support Workers who provide individualized support and encourage successful participation. Programs take place at Lansdowne Children’s Centre and within the community. The Camp & Recreation Supervisor is happy to answer your questions and provide greater program details and assistance during the registration process.
