Natasha Kramer, resource consultant with Lansdowne Children’s Centre, was one of the experts interviewed for a recent Brantford Expositor article highlighting the Kickstart to Kindergarten program being offered in Grand Erie.
As the piece by local journalist Brian Thompson notes, Grand Erie District School Board (GEDSB) is hosting events until the end of March where children who are going to be entering school in September can get an early taste of the classroom.
It’s also an opportunity for a LookSee Developmental Screening to be done.
As Kramer explained in the article, the screening is “a guideline to make sure that kids are developing within the normal range of development …
"We help kids get an early jumpstart on intervention if it’s required.”
Some of the milestones being tested are whether a child can tell a story with a clear beginning, middle and end; if they can hop on one foot; and if they are able to write their own name.
All of Lansdowne’s ICDP (Infant Child Development Program) staff and most of its EIP (Early Integration Program) staff cover 10 community events through the GEDSB and Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB).
