The 2023 Empowered Kids Ontario (EKO) Scholarship program is now open for applications! Submit your story to win one of:

  • 6 scholarships worth $2,500 each

  • 1 award for a Canadian First Nations, Indigenous or Métis student

Since 2011, EKO is helping to support the goals of youth with disabilities pursuing education programs. Applications must be submitted no later than May 31, 2023.

Lansdowne Children's Centre is seeking local applicants to participate in this incredible opportunity for clients and families to earn funding for education and personal goals.

You can apply for the Empowered Kids Ontario Scholarship if you’ve received services from one of Empowered Kids Ontario member organizations (like Lansdowne Children's Centre). You must be nearing completion or have completed your secondary education and will enroll/continue enrollment in the next academic year in an accredited certificate or degree-granting program at the post-secondary or graduate level from a:

  • college, university or Indigenous Institute

  • continuing education program

  • traditional knowledge program

  • vocational-technical school or arts training program

You must be a:

  • Canadian citizen

  • Canadian First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth are eligible for any of the six awards, including the EKO Scholarship for Indigenous students

  • Permanent resident/landed immigrant

  • Convention refugee

  • Protected person living in Canada, as defined in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

If you’ve applied before you are invited to apply again this year. Those who have already been named an EKO Scholar are no longer eligible.

When it comes to kids with disabilities living their best lives, we don’t want anything to get in the way. That’s why we’re proud to offer the EKO Scholarship to Ontario youth who will be enrolling in accredited college, university, Indigenous institute, and career education programs in fall 2023.

We’re committed to awarding six EKO Scholarships, including one award specifically for a Canadian First Nations, Indigenous, or Métis student. Recipients of the EKO Scholarship each receive awards of $2,500 for the 2023/24 academic year.

The EKO Scholarship recognizes youth who are or have been clients of an EKO member organization.

“For more than a decade, we have been empowering Ontario youth pursuing their education and career goals, elevating social consciousness for the world’s largest minority: people with disabilities,”

says Empowered Kids Ontario CEO Jennifer Churchill.

EKO Scholars are pursuing studies and careers in law, technology, medicine and the health sciences, visual and performing arts, industrial design, early childhood education, and much more.

Applicants are asked to submit an original essay or creative project describing why the scholarship is meaningful to them, two letters of recommendation, and a letter from an EKO member verifying they received services from that organization.

  • Applications Open: February 1, 2023

  • Deadline to apply: May 31, 2023

  • EKO Scholars announced: September 2023
