Julie Neal wins Bob Caissie Community Care Award

“Generosity is not an act; it is a ripple.”

Lyndra Henriksen, Lansdowne Children’s Centre’s Director of Development and Community Relations, made this observation as she was speaking about the impact Bob Caissie had made over the years, not only for Lansdowne, but the community beyond.

Bob is a local business owner and an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Brantford. In 2001, he started the Great Northern Ride, a fundraiser for Lansdowne’s recreational programming. In 2004, he had the idea for another major fundraising event, the annual Charity Motorcycle Ride for Lansdowne Kids.

These and other events are responsible for funding the Every Kid Counts program, which was founded in 2001, and allows children and youth to participate in mainstream recreation activities with the assistance of a Lansdowne Support Worker.

The Bob Caissie Community Care Award was created to honour the legacy Bob had created through his years of generosity with his time, talent and treasures.

This year, the award was presented to Julie Neal, mom to Lansdowne client Tenley, and the driver of her own annual fundraiser for Lansdowne, the Magic of Giving Holiday Market.

As Lynda noted, Julie’s parent journey with Lansdowne began with “navigating uncertainty and wanting the very best for (her) child,” and had since grown “into advocacy, leadership and community impact. … what began as a personal journey has become a source of strength and inspiration for others.”

Julie said she was “truly honoured and humbled” to receive the award.

“To be recognized by an organization that does such meaningful and life changing work for local infants, children, youth, and families is something I never take for granted.

"Lansdowne Children's Centre makes an incredible difference in our community every day, and I am grateful to play even a small role in supporting their mission.”

Julie said she appreciated being able to see Bob again at the event, and to have the opportunity to meet his family.

“Hearing more about his legacy and the passion he has made this recognition even more meaningful,” she said.

“I believe that when we come together to support one another, amazing things can happen, and I feel fortunate to be surrounded by so many generous, caring people who share that same commitment. …

"This award inspires me to continue giving back and supporting the community that has given so much to me, our daughter and my family!”

Julie also added her thanks to all of the individuals, volunteers, staff and supporters of Lansdowne, “who work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the lives of children and families.”
