Her journey into fundraising began when she was nine years old.

Inspired by radio personality Casey Kasem, who encouraged kids to help other kids by raising funds for muscular dystrophy, Lynda sent away for a fundraising kit designed for children to host their own events.

“We held a carnival event in our backyard, complete with pony rides,” she recalled.

Her early experiences stuck with her. Throughout school – from elementary to university – Lynda was involved in numerous events.

“The majority were associated with community causes focused on helping others.”

Even with that foundation laid early in life, “I never imagined that I would become a gift facilitator.”

At the start of her post-secondary education, Lynda’s focus was on Women’s Studies and English Literature.

“I had a fundamental interest in human rights,” she said, as well as the arts.

She was accepted into the first Canadian cohort of what was then known as the Arts Income Management Program – an initiative designed to support the business and management side of growing arts organizations, with a focus on fund development.

“The program taught me so much,” she said. “And it helped me build lasting connections.”

She worked in several roles on a variety of projects following graduation.

"Early on, my mentors in major gifts and capital projects helped me understand the role as a gift facilitator – how we extend an invitation and offer an opportunity to act on something that speaks to us.”

When inviting others to support a cause, it’s much easier when it’s a mission you believe in.

Lynda came to Lansdowne because “I carry a very strong belief that children have special rights, and we all have a responsibility to provide for the needs of all children.”

In addition to leading Lansdowne’s ongoing annual fundraising efforts, Lynda will play a key role in its upcoming capital campaign to support the centre’s new building project.

She emphasized that the success of fundraising efforts depends on the community’s embrace and noted Lansdowne is held in high regard for its excellence.

With a legacy of community support, and the leadership from both volunteers and staff, Lynda sees a bright and exciting future for Lansdowne. in a shared commitment to children and families.

“We're moving forward with confidence, purpose and gratitude — ready to build a stronger tomorrow together,”

she said.
