Justin Wareham is Lansdowne Children’s Centre’s new treasurer on its board of directors.
“It’s my first time with any kind of role like this; it’s exciting… scary,” he added with a laugh.
Wareham lives in Delhi and works at Millards Chartered Professional Accountants’ Brantford location as a CPA and an associate of the business.
“Most of what I do is auditing not-for-profit organizations. I have a really strong background in that, and I think that'll really translate well into the role of treasurer at Lansdowne,” Wareham said. “I have a lot of experience presenting financial statements to boards.”
While there’s always a degree of uncertainty that comes with taking on a new challenge, Wareham is ready to dive in.
“I've been wanting to get involved in a role like that for a while now,” Wareham said. “I just want to get involved in the community, give back. The opportunity presented itself, and I jumped all over it."
"Lansdowne is such a highly regarded organization, and does such great work for this community that I was honored to be asked to be part of it.”
With the unveiling of the proposed location for Lansdowne’s new building in Brantford, a capital campaign will soon be launched, and Wareham is ready to help with that, “using the skills and knowledge that I have to bring awareness to the new building project; (to) get word out to the community … and hopefully, we can raise some funds.”
Wareham noted, “Lansdowne does quite a few community events,” and said he plans to “get involved with that kind of stuff, too – volunteering time, I think, is important.”
In his role on the board, he intends to “offer input where I see fit with my background.”
This includes his experience in matters of finance, of course, but also as a resident of Norfolk County.
“I think that's really important,” Wareham said. “It's going to be great to advocate for Norfolk; I understand there's quite a few Lansdowne clients who are from (there), so just advocating for them and having representation on the board from Norfolk County is great.”
