What can we do to prepare? What are some considerations we may not have thought of? How do we make it more successful? How do we increase independence in our children? Brantford/Brant County - Haldimand/Norfolk County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY All Services Index OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY Occupational Therapy at Lansdowne (OT) Occupational Therapists (OT) at Lansdowne Children's Centre work with children and their families to help improve skills and participation in daily activities. OT focuses on fine motor skills, typically thought of as the use of hands and upper extremities. Fine motor skills include activities such as reaching, grasping and manipulating objects with your hands, and can also involve vision, specifically visual motor skills, often referred to as hand-eye coordination. What are examples of challenges addressed with Occupational Therapy? Feeding (using a fork or spoon or cup) self-care (getting dressed, brushing hair, brushing teeth) playing (gripping toys, stacking blocks) printing and drawing (using a pencil or crayon) cutting with scissors (using tools effectively) emotional regulation (getting calm, alert, and ready to learn, play and/or interact with others) Eligibility Start Referral Children living in Brantford, Brant County, Haldimand County, Norfolk County, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, may be eligible for Community Based Rehabilitation Services (CBRS) from birth through to their 19th birthday. Services are provided at our main location in Brantford (Brant County), and/or in Simcoe (Norfolk County), Caledonia and Dunnville (Haldimand County). Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations Once a referral to Community Based (CBRS) Occupational Therapy Services has been completed, your child will be placed on an Assessment Waitlist. Our team will contact you to book your appointment when your turn comes. Your initial phone call conversation often includes questions that help to provide your occupational therapist with important information, to help gain understanding of your child’s strengths and interests as well as areas of need. Your first appointment may be a face-to-face assessment or a parent/caregiver interview. A follow-up appointment may be provided for observation in a natural setting, such as your child's home, school or daycare. The type of assessment will depend on your unique concerns, the reason for the referral, and by where your child fits best within our care pathways. Your occupational therapist will review findings with you, develop goals with you and will help to determine the best plan of intervention and assistance. Your service plan may include parent education sessions, group programming and/or “individual sessions” that are more focused to target your child’s specific goals. You Belong Here. Brantford/Brant County - Haldimand/Norfolk County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River PHYSIOTHERAPY All Services Index PHYSIOTHERAPY Physiotherapy at Lansdowne (PT) Physiotherapists at Lansdowne Children’s Centre provide assessment and treatment for infants, children and youth up to age 19, with difficulties in muscle strength, joint range of motion, quality of movement, tone and gross motor development. Treatment includes teaching strategies to the family, caregivers and clients to improve function. Physiotherapy also provides support in accessing mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers. What are examples of challenges addressed with physiotherapy? Muscle strength and range Muscle tone (ie. ability to relax a muscle) Quality of movement Gross motor skills (ex. rolling, crawling, walking, waving) Access to mobility equipment Eligibility Start Referral Children living in Brantford, Brant County, Haldimand County, Norfolk County, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations, are eligible for Community Based Rehab Services (CBRS) from birth through to their 19th birthday.
