What is SIBSHOPS program? | Child and Youth, Sibshops, Siblings, | Lansdowne Children's Centre Resource Library What is SIBSHOPS program? SIBSHOPS at Lansdowne Children's Centre SIBSHOPS is a 4-day youth workshop hosted by Lansdowne Children's Centre at Kids Country Inn, 25 Bell Lane, Brantford (around the corner from our site at 39 Mt. Pleasant St.) SIBSHOPS is not a camp. SIBSHOPS is a therapeutic program providing young brothers and sisters of Lansdowne infant, child and youth clients with peer support and information in a lively, recreational setting. It is an opportunity for children and youth siblings to meet other "sibs" (usually for the first time). It is a lively environment where kids can have fun, laugh, talk about the good and not-so-good parts of having a sib with additional/special needs, play great games, and learn about the services their brothers and sisters receive. SIBSHOPS Eligibility: A sibling of a Lansdowne Children's Centre client who is not a client themselves Open to children/youth ages 8 to 12 years old Space is limited. The following application is intended to help determine Lansdowne client sibling eligibility for SIBSHOPS. Please complete and submit this online form no later than April 18, 2025. START YOUR SIBSHOPS APPLICATION The next SIBSHOPS program will run August 11 to 14, each day from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please note that completion of this application does not guarantee a place in the program. - MADELYN | Lansdowne
Give Today Ways To Give Meet The Kids Partner Profiles Impact Report Our Board Contact Us < Back MADELYN 2023 Lansdowne Heroes Walk and Roll Ambassador Madelyn and her twin sister Brooke were born healthy babies with no complications. You wouldn’t know by looking at them, but they are twins, born 10 minutes apart. They met all of their milestones as babies, rolling over, walking etc. It wasn’t until approximately 18-24 months old that their parents started to notice some strange behaviours and their development was starting to stall in certain areas. Both girls showed a delay in speech, having very little, to no communication, both verbally and non-verbally. They also lacked social skills, and they preferred to be by themselves or only with their parents. Their play was also delayed for their age; no pretend or imitation play. They also showing signs of stimming; arm flapping, repetitive head or finger movements, and tip-toe walking. The girls started at Lansdowne with the early integration program that would assist the girls while at daycare. With the help of their LCC support, daycare staff, and their pediatrician, both girls were referred to Dr. Klein for an official Autism diagnosis in The Spring of 2020. As soon as they received their Autism diagnosis, they gained access to a variety of resources from Lansdowne, starting with speech therapy and some occupational therapy. Even though Covid caused a province wide lockdown, putting a halt on services, Brooke and Madelyn were able to attend in center sessions when safely possible. Both girls progressed, and were able to express their wants and needs using non-verbal communication system called PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System). Once the girls started kindergarten, they started in the ABA program at Lansdowne. Through this program, their progress really accelerated, and they have really excelled in many different areas. Madelyn, who was mostly non-verbal starting the program, is now having conversations, following instructions and answering questions. She will tolerate undesired activities and has learned other ways to direct her frustrations. Brooke is now able to communicate her wants and needs more consistently, both verbally and non-verbally. They have both learned to tolerate undesired activities, and learned skills to become more independent. Brooke and Madelyn have been able to participate in many recreation programs offered through Lansdowne such as March break camp, summer camp, community corner program& Saturday Socials program. They love going to these activities as it gives them a chance to explore new things at their own pace, making it a much more enjoyable experience. Their parents have also taken advantage of the Lansdowne Resource Centre, Autism Clinics, and Parent Events. Lansdowne has given the whole family all the resources they need. Whenever their parents have a question or concernarise, their Lansdowne team is always quick with tips, tricks, recommendations and willing to brain storm to come up with solutions that are geared to each child’s unique individual needs and interests. Both Madelyn and Brooke love coming to Lansdowne. You can often see them in the halls; Madelyn skipping with a basket of toys or Brooke with her beloved books in her hand. The children and families of Lansdowne thank you for your support. Dontate Today Contact Us
- BILLIE & LACEY | Lansdowne
Give Today Ways To Give Meet The Kids Partner Profiles Impact Report Our Board Contact Us < Back BILLIE & LACEY 2023 Lansdowne Charity Motorcycle Ride Ambassadors Hello, my name is Billie MacDonald. My sister Lacey and I are the MacMoore Sisters, known for our fundraising at the Lansdowne Charity Motorcycle Ride. I was born with a Brachial Plexus injury in my right arm. It was a challenging time as no one could really explain it to my mum and dad why my arm looked different. When I was one month old I was taken for a visit to Lansdowne Children’s Centre. My sister Lacey had been there the year before to make sure she was ready for school and she was excited for me to see it. We spent some time visiting with Heather and Ashley in the Physio and Occupational Therapy departments and they became my second family. At Lansdowne I have taken part in the Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Recreation programs and so much more. It is my second home. I have been diagnosed with both Brachial Plexus and Acquired Brain Injury with the help of Lansdowne. Throughout the years Lansdowne has helped me with getting everything I need to help me learn better in school, and helping my family get me a mobility device to help me explore the world even when I am having a bad day and couldn’t walk. Every year we look forward to the Christmas Party to get us out and to get to see Santa. It is one of the best family days! Each year we looked forward to going to Lansdowne Children’s Centre events because we got to be with a lot of the people who I know. Thank you for caring to read my letter. Please help support Lansdowne Children's Centre Foundation by riding on July 8, or by making a donation to our team or any of the other riders and teams. We are so thankful for all the Lansdowne has done for our family, and other families. We fundraise each year to help make sure other kids and families get a chance to get the help we have had. The children and families of Lansdowne thank you for your support. Dontate Today Contact Us
