    Brantford/Brant County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River RESPITE SERVICES All Services Index RESPITE SERVICES Kids Country Inn Kids Country Inn (KCI) is licensed by the Ministry Of Children, Community, and Social Services to provide out-of-home weekend respite. It is a fun-filled respite program located at Brantwood Abilities Centre in Brantford. This picturesque location offers an environment that supports the special needs of the children/youth, including a heated therapy pool, Snoezelen mutli-sensory environment room, and accessible grounds to explore. Lansdowne provides quality care in a home-like environment. Staffing consists of a complement of Nurses and well-trained Support Workers. Children and youth are well taken care of so that families can re-energize and rest. Eligibility Start Referral Children/youth 0-18 years of age; Children/youth who are: Medically fragile, and/or Technologically dependent (uses a medical device on a consistent basis to maintain the function of daily living) ie. Catheterization, enteral tube feeding, suctioning and oxygen; or Physically disabled with multiple special needs, as defined by a physician Reside in Brantford or Brant County in their family home. Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations Once your child is deemed eligible they can expect to attend KCI approximately 4 weekends per year. The respite weekend runs from Friday at 6 pm to Sunday at 3:30 pm. Day respite is also an option for those not quite ready to sleep away from home. I have been attending Lansdowne Children’s Centre since I was 3 years old when I started with speech therapy. Over the next 10 years I have also participated in the physiotherapy and occupational therapy programs as well as the many Therapeutic Recreation programs such as cooking classes, dance, March break and summer camps and weekend retreats. The support, patience and kindness of the dedicated staff have made my experiences fun and challenging. I really enjoy my time and experiences at Lansdowne and I appreciate the opportunities it has given me. I have been able to increase my strength, develop new skills, build my self-esteem, meet new peers and increase my confidence with social interactions. I am so thankful and appreciative for the chance to be a part of the Lansdowne Children’s Centre. The Recreation programs are a way for me and my peers to enjoy things like camps, sleepovers, dance classes, cooking classes and so much more. It gives every one of us a chance to learn new things and have lots of fun and I mean it…. lots and lots of fun together. We are all given a chance to have fun, be happy and enjoy time with our friends and the Staff. It also gives our parents a break and we all know they need it. Seriously we all know they need it!!!! Am I right or what? I have to say my favorite program is… well I have to think about this one… well I made up my mind I just don't like them… I love them all. It's so hard to choose just one. He is the youngest of three children. Joshua has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and his older sibling also has multiple diagnoses, which impacts his daily life. He loves to spend time with his family, going on adventures, camping, hiking and any type of water fun. Joshua began his Lansdowne journey through speech therapy and after his diagnosis, he was able to participate in IBI therapy full time. He thoroughly enjoys recreation therapy, which helps him develop good social skills, as well as make new friends. He is such a kind, caring, helpful little guy. He can put a smile on anyone’s face.     Brantford/Brant County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River RESPITE SERVICES All Services Index RESPITE SERVICES Special Services at Home Special Services at Home (SS@H) is a program designed to provide a variety of supports to those who are caring for a child with a developmental and/ or physical disability. SS@H can be used in a variety of ways to best meet the needs of each unique family. Support can be provided either in the home or in a variety of community settings The program is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Some of the ways SS@H can provide your child with support are: 1:1 Support Worker to support your child in working toward their own unique goals. 1:1 Support Worker to provide families with a short break from the demands of caring for their child. The purchase of a variety of other individualized supports and services for your child based on current Ministry guidelines. With careful thought and planning, your SS@H funds can be used to support a wide range of meaningful activities which will increase a child's experiences and opportunities to work on their individual goals. Once your child’s eligibility has been determined, and the Ministry has issued your child an SS@H contract, a Program Supervisor will meet with you to discuss how your funding can be best utilized to meet the unique needs of your child and family.
