Recreation Services provide opportunities designed to assist and encourage children and youth clients to take advantage of individual or group activities directed towards promoting physical, cultural, and/or social development. These activities allow clients to explore their interests, exercise their skill sets and pursue personal development. Eligibility Start Referral Children and youth between the ages of 4 and 18, who reside in Brant County and have a developmental delay and/or a physical disability. Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations After the referral is received, you will be contacted by the Every Kid Counts Co-ordinator do discuss program options. A skilled support worker will be matched with your child/youth. The support worker will attend the community recreation program you have chosen with your child/youth. It is the caregiver’s (your) responsibility to transport their (your) child/youth to and from the activity as well as pay for the cost of the activity. You Belong Here. He is the youngest of three children. Joshua has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and his older sibling also has multiple diagnoses, which impacts his daily life. He loves to spend time with his family, going on adventures, camping, hiking and any type of water fun. Joshua began his Lansdowne journey through speech therapy and after his diagnosis, he was able to participate in IBI therapy full time. He thoroughly enjoys recreation therapy, which helps him develop good social skills, as well as make new friends. He is such a kind, caring, helpful little guy. He can put a smile on anyone’s face. All Services Index REHABILITATION SERVICES Physiotherapy at Lansdowne Children's Centre in Brantford, Caledonia, Dunnville and Simcoe Start Referral What is Physiotherapy? (PT) Physiotherapists at Lansdowne Children’s Centre provide assessment and treatment for infants, children and youth up to age 19, with difficulties in muscle strength, joint range of motion, quality of movement, tone and gross motor development. Treatment includes teaching strategies to the family, caregivers and clients to improve function. Physiotherapy also provides support in accessing mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers. They learn how to pinpoint an injury’s root causes. Physiotherapists focus on both prevention and rehabilitation. Treatment can be for problems caused by injury, disease or disability. Some examples include: neck and back pain caused by problems in the muscles and skeleton; Problems in the bones, joints, muscles and ligaments; Lung problems such as asthma; Disability as a result of heart problems; Pelvic issues, such as bladder and bowel problems related to childbirth; Loss of mobility because of trauma to the brain or spine, or due to diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis; Fatigue, pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of muscle strength. Brantford/Brant County - Haldimand/Norfolk County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River SPEECH THERAPY All Services Index SPEECH THERAPY School-Based Speech & Language Therapy (SBRS-ST) School Based Rehabilitation Services [SBRS] include Occupational Therapy [OT], Physiotherapy [PT] and Speech Therapy [ST] for speech needs and is provided to school-aged children in their publicly-funded schools. Eligibility Start Referral Children attending publicly funded schools who meet eligibility criteria can receive OT and PT from school entry. SBRS speech therapy can be initiated iat school entry for children with articulation, fluency or voice concerns. SBRS referrals can be initiated by Lansdowne Children’s Centre community-based therapists or schools with consent from parents/guardians. Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations Once a referral is received, your child may be placed on a waitlist. You will be contacted by an intake coordinator when your turn comes, for an update of your child’s information. The SBRS therapist will then contact you to explain the assessment process, obtain your consent and let you know the date of assessment, which will take place at school. Once assessment has been completed you will be contacted to review the findings, develop goals and determine the plan of intervention following our care pathways.
