Brantford/Brant County - Haldimand/Norfolk County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River - Other Region of Ontario AUTISM SERVICES All Services Index AUTISM SERVICES Caregiver-Mediated Early Years Program Autism Services Caregiver-Mediated Early Years programs are no-cost to the family, part of the government funded Foundational Family Services. These play-based and child-led programs for young children, ages 12 months to 48 months, aim to build caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development by teaching strategies that may help their young children learn new skills and meet individual goals. Autism Services Caregiver-Mediated Early Years programs are FREE of charge and teach families strategies that may help their young children learn new skills and meet individual goals. These play-based and child-led programs are for young children, ages 12 months to 48 months, and aim to build caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development. A program is available for a period of up to six-months per child. Who is eligible? • Your child must be a registered member of the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). • Eligible families will receive an invitation from the Ministry via email and/or post mail. • Only families with invitations are able to sign up for the program. Eligibility Start Referral 1) Child is Registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) 2) Child is under 48 months of age Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations Autism Services at Lansdowne Children's Centre will deliver three service option models: Social ABCs; Pivotal Response Training (PRT); and Early Social Interaction/Social Communication Emotional Regulation and Transactional Supports(ESI/SCERTS). Social ABCs This is an early intervention program in which parents learn a set of strategies for helping their Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosed toddler communicate and interact socially, using play-based activities and daily routines that their child finds most motivating. Pivotal Response Training (PRT) A variation of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) type therapy, Pivotal Response Training focuses on more comprehensive “pivotal” areas, such as increasing a child's motivation to learn, initiate communication, and monitor their own behaviors. Early Social Interaction/Social Communication Emotional Regulation and Transactional Supports The ESI/SCERTS model is a research-based educational approach and multidisciplinary framework that directly addresses the core challenges faced by children and persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related disabilities, and their families. She has been through much more in her 11 years and still has some struggles she deals with daily. These struggles sometimes prohibit her from doing things that other kids her age get to do. She loves to dance and be around other people. She loves trying new things and is very creative in figuring out how to adapt activities to suit her needs. She has finally met her match in the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) team at Lansdowne Children’s Cnetre. They are also hilarious, creative, clever, cheerful, and very determined that “all” kids who come to the program are included, whatever they may look like. They even managed to get me to consent to Aeva travelling to The Factory (kidtastic or big kids and adults), in London with them! I wasn’t even hardly, barely, kind of worried…maybe…lol. She had a blast, and it may have looked different from the other kids in the group, but they made sure she had just as good a time. Aeva has been involved with the dance group at LCC for a few years now. She loves it, and her teacher and helpers always make sure she is able to fully participate. Because of her health and physical issues, I can’t just drop Aeva off at any program or class. But because of the TR team’s knowledge and experience, I can drop her off at program there, and know she will be fully involved. When the Recreation Therapy Supervisor found out that Aeva wanted to join her brother at DIY camp she alleviated my fears of my girl with a hammer, and assured me they would love to have her join. For a mom who often gets the impression that her child can’t be accommodated…that was huge. For a mom who often does wrecking jobs with her daughter, it was nerve racking, but everyone survived. Brantford/Brant County - Haldimand/Norfolk County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River SPEECH THERAPY All Services Index SPEECH THERAPY School-Based Speech & Language Therapy (SBRS-ST) School Based Rehabilitation Services [SBRS] include Occupational Therapy [OT], Physiotherapy [PT] and Speech Therapy [ST] for speech needs and is provided to school-aged children in their publicly-funded schools. Eligibility Start Referral Children attending publicly funded schools who meet eligibility criteria can receive OT and PT from school entry. SBRS speech therapy can be initiated iat school entry for children with articulation, fluency or voice concerns. SBRS referrals can be initiated by Lansdowne Children’s Centre community-based therapists or schools with consent from parents/guardians. Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations Once a referral is received, your child may be placed on a waitlist. You will be contacted by an intake coordinator when your turn comes, for an update of your child’s information. The SBRS therapist will then contact you to explain the assessment process, obtain your consent and let you know the date of assessment, which will take place at school. Once assessment has been completed you will be contacted to review the findings, develop goals and determine the plan of intervention following our care pathways. He is currently experiencing his second year of high school and is super creative and talented. His goal is to be a game designer when he grows up. He also loves to try out voice impersonations. He is a sponge and loves to learn, is compassionate, loving, caring, and funny. He is eager to help those around him. Many of Isaias's success can be attributed to the years of time spent with Lansdowne Children's Centre. Gabriel is currently 13 years old (going on 14 this summer). He is preparing for grade 9 this coming September. Gabriel, much like his brother is a sponge and enjoys learning. Constantly pushing himself to meet goals. His dream is to become a paleontologist. Gabriel is outgoing, funny, caring and loving. Like his brother Isaias, Lansdowne has been a huge puzzle piece in propelling Gabriel forward to the success he is today! Isaias and Gabriel are not only brothers but best friends. Isaias is full of facts and can grab your attention in an instant to teach you all about something. He has mad dance skills and is just as talented at yoga! Gabriel is very thoughtful and it shows in everything he does from a kind word to a creative project. He loves dinosaurs and it would be impossible to stump him on any dinosaur-related information! The care and support they show each other is heartwarming and they will offer that same support to their peers. Gabriel is always there to give a friend an uplifting compliment during a creative project and Isaias can always recognize when someone is feeling down and needs a friend. “The Brothers” can always be relied on to bring their contagious enthusiasm to any activity or event! Brantford/Brant County AUTISM SERVICES All Services Index AUTISM SERVICES Entry to School The Entry to School program was introduced as a bridge to kindergarten for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Families registered with OAP are selected and invited by the government agency to participate in the program, hosted by Autism Services at Lansdowne Children's Centre in Brantford. Eligibility Start Referral 1) Registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) 2) Receive an invitation letter from the OAP/Provincial Ministry is required. After receiving your letter please call SmartStart Hub at 519.753.3153 x507 to connect with Autism Services. 2) Child is has not yet enrolled in school and is under the age for grade one. Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations Participants begin on their own, meeting the classroom as a lone individual free to explore as they interact with adults. When they return for group play, they are one of four in the classroom, with groups alternating days. As the program progresses the groups come together to form a group of eight. The classes are supported by multiple team members, specialists in early childhood education, behaviour, communication, motor skills, and speech and language. You Belong Here.
