    Lansdowne physiotherapy focuses on helping infants, children and youth develop and optimize their large motor control muscles and abilities, including muscle strength and range. Mobility activities may include rolling, crawling, standing, walking. (PT) Physiotherapists at Lansdowne Children’s Centre provide assessment and treatment for infants, children and youth up to age 19, with difficulties in muscle strength, joint range of motion, quality of movement, tone and gross motor development. Treatment includes teaching strategies to the family, caregivers and clients to improve function. Physiotherapy also provides support in accessing mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers.   • Developmental Pediatrician

    Brantford/Brant County - Haldimand/Norfolk County - Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation - Six Nations of the Grand River INFANT & CHILD SUPPORTS All Services Index INFANT & CHILD SUPPORTS Developmental Pediatrician Dr. Ben Klein is a Developmental Paediatrician whose practice operates in the Lansdowne Children's Centre in Brantford. Developmental paediatricians work closely with other health professionals, as well as teachers, parents, day care workers and other care providers to help develop strategies to deal with the different concerns a child might be having. In certain cases, a diagnosis is needed to access additional services like behavioural therapy, funding support etc. Developmental paediatricians are doctors who specialize in child development. Eligibility Start Referral Lansdowne Children's Centre clients receiving other services are eligible to have an assessment completed by the Developmental Paediatrician. Referrals can be requested by Lansdowne service providers working with the client and their family. Referrals can also be made by community-based physicians. Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations Once a referral to the Developmental Paediatrician has been completed you will be contacted by Lansdowne Children's Centre to arrange a date/time for an assessment. You and your child will meet at Lansdowne with the Developmental Paediatrician where general information sharing and informal and standardized evaluation will occur to determine your child’s abilities and needs. The doctor will talk with you about your concerns and ask a lot of questions about your child and their development. This may include questions about the pregnancy and birth, early development such as babbling, first words, gestures, social skills (joint attention, smiling), play skills and interests, behaviours, motor skills and overall medical health. You may be asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding your child’s development. If your child is daycare - or school-aged, then information may also be collected from caregivers and teachers. Additional reports from other therapists your child may be seeing (resource educator, early childhood consultant, speech and language pathologist, psychologist, occupational therapist) will also be collected and interpreted. Depending on your child’s challenges, the developmental paediatrician will interact with and observe your child playing and/or ask them to participate in some play-based evaluations. The developmental paediatrician will use these evaluations in combination with the history to assess your child and determine their developmental needs. Developmental paediatricians work closely with other health professionals, as well as teachers, parents, day care workers and other care providers to help develop strategies to deal with the different concerns a child might be having.
