National Caregiver Day: 'We see you and celebrate you'

There was a special booth set up in the foyer of Lansdowne Children’s Centre in Brantford on April 1, with supportive messages and bouquets of flowers.

"Today is a special day in Canada. It is National Caregiver Day, a day to recognize everyone who cares for someone else,”

said Renee Cochrane, Lansdowne’s family engagement coordinator.

Caregivers were invited to take a bouquet of flowers, which were donated for the third year by Floral Express Wholesalers in Woodstock.

Cochrane said it was important to take time to recognize what caregivers do every day to support others.

“Whether you are a parent caring for a child, or a child caring for a parent, or any type of caregiver – you matter. Today we see you and celebrate you.”

If you are a caregiver, you don’t have to do it alone. Talk to staff at Lansdowne about how to connect with resources, or check out Carers Canada’s website, which has a database of different Canadian organizations that provide supports and services for caregivers and their loved ones: https://www.carerscanada.ca/organizations-supporting-caregivers/
