Recreation Services provide opportunities designed to assist and encourage children and youth clients to take advantage of individual or group activities directed towards promoting physical, cultural, and/or social development. These activities allow clients to explore their interests, exercise their skill sets and pursue personal development. Eligibility Start Referral Children and youth between the ages of 4 and 18, who reside in Brant County and have a developmental delay and/or a physical disability. Goals, Skills and Keywords Expectations After the referral is received, you will be contacted by the Every Kid Counts Co-ordinator do discuss program options. A skilled support worker will be matched with your child/youth. The support worker will attend the community recreation program you have chosen with your child/youth. Guidelines For Clients and Families Regarding Exclusion Due To Illness | | Lansdowne Children's Centre Resource Library Guidelines For Clients and Families Regarding Exclusion Due To Illness As an agency working with the public, Lansdowne Children's Centre is accountable to provide a healthy environment. In this regard, individuals are encouraged to remain at home and away from others when ill, per Brant County Health Unit guidelines. Children and other family members with the following conditions should remain at home and away from others: CONDITION EXCLUSION PERIOD Chickenpox Until well enough to participate in all activities with no accompanying fever regardless of the state of the rash Chickenpox is a reportable disease and must be reported to the Local Medical Officer of Health Diarrhea 24 hours after Diarrhea stops Fever no symptoms for 24 hours Head Lice Until after the first treatment and no nits remain in the hair Impetigo Until the antibiotic prescribed by a doctor has been taken for at least one full day Influenza until 5 days after symptoms began Pink Eye, bacterial (conjunctivitis) with Discharge Until the antibiotic prescribed by a doctor has been taken for at least one full day Ringworm Until the treatment has started Strep Throat Until antibiotic treatment has been taken for one full day Vomiting N o vomiting for 24 hours For more information on these and other diseases please visit the Brant County Health Unit website at www.bchu.org or contact your family doctor or TELEHEALTH Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 for advice about care and treatment. These play-based and child-led programs for young children, ages 12 months to 48 months, aim to build caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development by teaching strategies that may help their young children learn new skills and meet individual goals. Autism Services Caregiver-Mediated Early Years programs are FREE of charge and teach families strategies that may help their young children learn new skills and meet individual goals. These play-based and child-led programs are for young children, ages 12 months to 48 months, and aim to build caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development. A program is available for a period of up to six-months per child. Who is eligible? • Your child must be a registered member of the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). • Eligible families will receive an invitation from the Ministry via email and/or post mail. • Only families with invitations are able to sign up for the program. Social ABCs This is an early intervention program in which parents learn a set of strategies for helping their Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosed toddler communicate and interact socially, using play-based activities and daily routines that their child finds most motivating. Pivotal Response Training (PRT) A variation of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) type therapy, Pivotal Response Training focuses on more comprehensive “pivotal” areas, such as increasing a child's motivation to learn, initiate communication, and monitor their own behaviors. Early Social Interaction/Social Communication Emotional Regulation and Transactional Supports The ESI/SCERTS model is a research-based educational approach and multidisciplinary framework that directly addresses the core challenges faced by children and persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related disabilities, and their families. Give Today Ways To Give Meet The Kids Partner Profiles Impact Report Our Board Contact Us < Back AEVA Aeva is hilarious, creative, clever, cheerful, and very, very determined. She has been through much more in her 11 years and still has some struggles she deals with daily. These struggles sometimes prohibit her from doing things that other kids her age get to do. She loves to dance and be around other people. She loves trying new things and is very creative in figuring out how to adapt activities to suit her needs. She has finally met her match in the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) team at Lansdowne Children’s Cnetre. They are also hilarious, creative, clever, cheerful, and very determined that “all” kids who come to the program are included, whatever they may look like. They even managed to get me to consent to Aeva travelling to The Factory (kidtastic or big kids and adults), in London with them! I wasn’t even hardly, barely, kind of worried…maybe…lol. She had a blast, and it may have looked different from the other kids in the group, but they made sure she had just as good a time. Aeva has been involved with the dance group at LCC for a few years now. She loves it, and her teacher and helpers always make sure she is able to fully participate. Because of her health and physical issues, I can’t just drop Aeva off at any program or class. But because of the TR team’s knowledge and experience, I can drop her off at program there, and know she will be fully involved. When the Recreation Therapy Supervisor found out that Aeva wanted to join her brother at DIY camp she alleviated my fears of my girl with a hammer, and assured me they would love to have her join. For a mom who often gets the impression that her child can’t be accommodated…that was huge. For a mom who often does wrecking jobs with her daughter, it was nerve racking, but everyone survived.
