Lansdowne Children's Centre is a highly accredited children's treatment centre (CTC) and SmartStart Hub, connecting caregivers and educators with local resources, services and support programs, for infants, children and youth with physical, communication, and/or developmental needs. If you have questions about early childhood development milestones, or are seeking help to navigate a diagnosis, you can connect with SmartStart Hub for help and answers. Anyone can submit a referral. We build caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development with strategies that may help their young children learn new skills and meet individual goals. The Entry to School program was introduced as a bridge to kindergarten for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Lansdowne physiotherapy focuses on helping infants, children and youth develop and optimize their large motor control muscles and abilities, including muscle strength and range. Mobility activities may include rolling, crawling, standing, walking. (PT) Physiotherapists at Lansdowne Children’s Centre provide assessment and treatment for infants, children and youth up to age 19, with difficulties in muscle strength, joint range of motion, quality of movement, tone and gross motor development. Treatment includes teaching strategies to the family, caregivers and clients to improve function. Physiotherapy also provides support in accessing mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers. Some examples include: neck and back pain caused by problems in the muscles and skeleton; Problems in the bones, joints, muscles and ligaments; Lung problems such as asthma; Disability as a result of heart problems; Pelvic issues, such as bladder and bowel problems related to childbirth; Loss of mobility because of trauma to the brain or spine, or due to diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis; Fatigue, pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of muscle strength.
