This Giving Tuesday, Every Kid Counts

Lansdowne Children’s Centre Foundation is sharing a message of hope this holiday season, kicking off a fundraising campaign this “Giving Tuesday” (November 28) that hopes to expand access to the Every Kid Counts support program.

The goal of the season is to raise $3,483 with online donations - one dollar for every child and youth who accessed support and services at Lansdowne Children’s Centre last year.

Said Jennifer White, Executive Director of Lansdowne Foundation, “It’s with generous gifts from donors, sponsors and organizations, that we are able to help children and youth and their families with access to support workers, specialty equipment and community-based programs."

"Just one dollar from each of our social media followers would translate to hundreds more hours of supported experiences to help children realize their potential.”

Every Kid Counts is a recreation program that was started in 2000, with the help of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant. The program pairs Lansdowne child and youth clients with support for an equal opportunity to participate in local, community-operated recreational programs of their choice. Access to the program is free for Lansdowne client families, and the capacity of the program is dependent on annual funding. When the original grant ended the funding of the program was continued by Lansdowne Children’s Centre Foundation.

Sarah Thompson is Manager of Recreation Services at Lansdowne Children’s Centre, that includes the Every Kid Counts (EKC) program. Thompson was first hired as the original EKC program coordinator, and is thrilled to see the program continue to evolve and expand.

“This past year we were able to help 96 children and youth access 40 hours of community recreation each. That’s nearly 4,000 hours of inclusive, social, skill development activity, helping kids to realize their potential."

"Any additional funding we can raise with events like the Charity Motorcycle Ride or through online donations is another step closer to offering more hours to more kids.”
