A great way to spend time with your kids, being a Hero for Lansdowne Children's Centre for child development

Join the Heroes Walk and Roll for family fun, fundraising, and movie nights with Lansdowne Children's Centre!

If you're connected to Lansdowne Children’s Centre, you may already be familiar that it can be a real challenge for some families to enjoy events with their kids.

Venues can be over stimulating with loud noise and bright lights
Shows can be restrictive with the expectation to sit and be silent
Large crowds can be intimidating, overwhelming, even unsafe

Too often these and other challenges create barriers for families to happily and confidently engage in social activities with children who have additional needs. In an effort to provide a more accessible and accommodating experience, Lansdowne Children’s Centre introduced the Heroes Walk and Roll fundraiser in 2019.

An accessible family carnival, Heroes Walk and Roll offers Lansdowne Children’s Centre children and youth clients and their families a fun day to enjoy games and activities and refreshments in a safe, outdoor setting. And in 2025, there's no cost to Lansdowne client and staff families to attend.

All the community are invited to enjoy the carnival experience in Brant Park on Saturday, October 4, and be a Lansdowne Hero by fundraising in the Heroes Walk and Roll - collecting pledges and completing 49 laps through the summer. Registered fundraisers, as an individual or as a team, also enter the carnival event for no cost.

Participants are invited to dress up as whatever “Hero” means to them and join in celebration of the strength of Lansdowne Kids and their families, who daily pursue goals and milestones in their development as they strive to realize their optimal potential. It’s also a chance for families to discover each other, and for kids to make friends.

This fundraising event is supported by the generosity of community sponsors and donors, and through pledges raised by participants. The funds raised by the Heroes Walk and Roll campaign contribute to operation of programs like: Lansdowne Children’s Centre recreation programs, Every Kid Counts, Family Engagement services, and the Family Assistance Fund.

What’s new in 2025?

The Heroes Walk and Roll campaign is kicking off in May, and touring to new communities this summer (like Dunnville, Port Dover, Simcoe and Caledonia), to host Hero-themed Family Movie Nights.

These events are free to families, and are designed to be sensitive to kids’ needs, offering gaming and activity stations around the room (indoors), and a lower volume presentation of our Hero movie is a backdrop for other fun and engagement.

A remodeled fundraising appeal has reduced financial barriers for family participation. A focus on reaching a goal/challenge encourages pledges and competition through incentives for reaching milestones! This echoes the accomplishments our Lansdowne kids work on every day, striving to reach new goals in child development for communication and mobility.

With community donations and sponsorships, Lansdowne Children’s Centre provides critical programs and services that level the playing field for children and youth with additional needs, providing opportunity to explore and develop their interests and abilities alongside peers in their community.
